Arlington, VA (PRWEB) July 2, 2008 - DECISIVE ANALYTICS Corporation (DAC) announced today that it has been selected by the US Air Force to develop new technologies for identifying terror networks. This asymmetric threat poses perhaps the most dangerous risk to US forces and assets both overseas and at home. Because of the sheer amount of data available, identifying terrorist activities can be very difficult. To overcome this problem, DAC is developing new ways to automatically identify terror networks while also understanding the context they represent. SOcial Networks In Context (SONIC) provides the capability to understand the roles of different network nodes, understand the semantic relationships between entities, and automatically identify important clusters of entities within a dynamic terror network.

In this article, we provide an overview of techniques developed by the Decisive Analytics Corporation (DAC) to find and stop the true terrorist threat. These five steps, captured in our BOBCAT approach for intelligence analysis, can:
- Process massive amounts of structured and unstructured data and quickly identify themes of activities that are occurring.
- Identify relationships between entities in the data that may otherwise go unnoticed.
- Enable analysts to focus on what data is important and ask questions that result in accurate conclusions faster than ever before.

Attacking the Network represents the next stage in our fight against the threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and terrorism in general. In this mode, we move away from trying to mitigate the effects of the attack, instead eliminating them altogether by defeating the core components of the terrorism operation: the key actors and their networks. By moving away from the attack itself and"up the kill chain" we can effectively neutralize the entire operation of a terrorist cell. This has many obvious advantages in the Global War on Terror.

It is not all that long ago that our military enemy could be described as large, well defined states with clear military, political, social, or economic goals. Today, we have an enemy that is almost the polar opposite. As Steven Metz has put it, these terrorists are seeking to:
- avoid battlespaces where they are at a distinct disadvantage,
- postpone decisive action avoid defeats
- sustain themselves,
- expand support,
- and ultimately swing the balance of power in their favor.
